Ithaca Over 50 Tournament Information

Game Time

  • One-hour games (two halves of 30 minutes)
  • 5 minutes of halftime
  • the starting times between games are separated by 1 hour and 15 minutes

We'll have 3 refs for each game. The linesmen are young, but with experience in high school soccer. Let's be nice to all of them.

The field is on
38-2 Town Barn Road
Lansing, NY 14882

There is parking along Verizon Lane. There are portable toilets by the field. For a full bathroom, we have to walk to the gas station at the corner of Triphammer Rd and Peruville Rd.

These are the rules:

Players should be 50 years old by the end of 2025.

Let’s strive for a friendly atmosphere. No anger, no insults at the referees or other players.

We’ll use regular FIFA rules, including offsides, with the following modifications:

TACKLES

  • Except in the situations described below, slide tackles are not allowed and penalized in the same manner as a normal foul: with a direct kick or penalty kick for the opposite team, according to whether the tackle takes place inside or outside of the defending area.
  • Slide tackles are allowed and not penalized in either of the following situations:
    • when made by a goalie in his own area, even if there are players nearby,
    • when made by a field player when there isn’t another player nearby (with the purpose of catching the ball but not getting it from another player).
    • The severity of the tackle and whether it results in a card will be judged by the referee. A tackle combined with a foul should result in at least a yellow card.

CARDS

  • A player receiving a yellow card must sub out for at least 5 minutes, and can be replaced.
  • When given a red card, the player must leave the field and cannot be replaced.
  • In the case of a straight red card, the player must in addition miss the next game.
  • In the case of a red card resulting from 2 yellow cards during the same game, the player is allowed to participate in the next game.

    SUBS
    Unlimited substitutions allowed.
Substitutions take place only when the ball is not in play. If the game fully stops for an injury or another such reason, both teams are allowed to sub. Otherwise,  substitutions are allowed only when one’s own team is to resume play (throw-in, free kick, etc.). Substitutions not allowed when the ball is in play or when the opposite team is to resume play.
Subbing players must alert the linesman and wait for the referee’s authorization before entering the field.

TIME

  • Games consist of 2 halves of 30 minutes, with 5 minutes in between.
  • Injury time is allowed. The referee determines the time to be added, based on stoppage time. The game does not necessarily end on the clock.

POINTS AND TIE-BREAKERS
After the group stage, to determine the standings we'll use

  1. points (3 for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss)
  2. head-to-head
  3. goal differential
  4. goals in favor
  5. penalty kicks (round of 5 plus singles)

If a semifinal or final game ends in a tie, we’ll turn to penalty kicks (round of 5 plus singles) to determine the winner, without any overtime.
